We're the United Citizens of America. Neighbors work together here with integrity, trust, and neighborly love. No in-app messages. Contact stays private until both people consent. Verification is not live yet, so that consent step is not open. Join the Waitlist if you want a note when it opens. Points can hype a community post. They never change a vote. Your Points.

Adults Protecting Neighbors. Calm Conduct. Clear Boundaries.

Street protest is a right many neighbors exercise. This page is general USA-first civic education for peaceful assembly - what commonly is and is not allowed, how to stay composed around officers, and practical edge cases. It is not personalized legal advice. Laws vary by state and city; verify locally before you go.

Peaceful Assembly Basics

In the United States, people generally may gather in traditional public forums (streets, sidewalks, parks) to speak and assemble peaceably. Governments may apply reasonable time, place, and manner limits that are content-neutral - for example, noise hours, parade routes, or park closing times. Exact rules are local.

  • Plan The Exit - Know two ways out before the crowd fills in.
  • Stay Peaceable - Violence, threats, and property damage leave the peaceful lane.
  • Read Posted Rules - Parks and plazas often post hours and permit notes.
  • Buddy Up - Arrive and leave with someone who can call for help.

Public Vs Private Property

Public Spaces

Sidewalks, many parks, and public plazas are common forums for speech. You still must yield to emergency access and follow lawful orders about closed areas.

Private Spaces

Malls, storefronts, campuses, and residences are often private. Owners may set rules and ask you to leave. Remaining after a lawful ask can become trespass under local law.

Mixed spaces (transit hubs, government buildings with security screening) can have extra rules. When unsure, treat “employees only,” fenced yards, and locked doors as off-limits.

Recording Video and Audio in Public

In many public spaces, photographing or filming what is in plain view - including police performing public duties - is widely treated as lawful. Audio consent and wiretap-style rules vary by state. Private interiors, restrooms, locker rooms, and posted no-camera zones are different. Do not invent a statute for your state; check local law or counsel.

  • Keep Distance - Do not interfere with officers or medics while recording.
  • Hands Free Enough - Be ready to set the phone down if ordered to stop interfering.
  • No Restricted Zones - Courthouse galleries, secure screening lines, and marked no-record areas may ban cameras.
  • Private Rooms Need Consent - Homes, offices, and many businesses are not “public sidewalk” rules.

Interacting With Officers

  1. Stay Calm - Lower your voice. Keep hands visible. Sudden moves raise tension.
  2. Ask If Free To Leave - If yes, leave calmly. If no, you may be detained - do not run.
  3. Do Not Argue Rights On The Curb - Document facts later. Curb debates rarely help in the moment.
  4. Identify When Required - Some states require name or ID in defined stops. Rules differ; comply with clear lawful commands, then seek counsel later if needed.
  5. Note Badge And Agency - Write badge number, car number, time, and location when safe.

What Not To Bring Or Do

  • Weapons - Firearms, knives, and improvised weapons raise risk and legal exposure even where open carry is otherwise debated. Leave them home.
  • Blocking Emergency Access - Ambulances, fire lanes, and hospital drives are not protest props.
  • Vandalism And Theft - Damaging property or taking goods is not peaceful assembly.
  • False Statements - Lying to officers or inventing crimes can create separate charges.
  • Mask Mandates And Local Bans - Some cities regulate face coverings at gatherings; check before you go.
  • Inciting Violence - Speech that crosses into true threats or incitement is not protected the same way as peaceful advocacy.

Counter-Protesters, De-Escalation, Buddy System

De-Escalate

Do not take bait. Step sideways, not forward. Let marshals or organizers create space. Film from a safe distance if needed; do not join a brawl to “prove a point.”

Buddy System

Share a meetup spot and a leave-by time. If one person is stopped, the buddy watches from a safe place and records badge details - not a rescue fight.

Exit routes matter more than the perfect chant. When the mood turns, leave together.

Minors and Bringing Kids

Parents and guardians decide whether children attend. Crowds, heat, noise, and sudden dispersal are harder on kids. Pack water, a quiet exit plan, and a written contact card. This site’s adult write tools and Terms already assume verified adults for gated actions - this guide does not add an adult-only banner. If a minor is separated, find event organizers or officers calmly; do not leave a child alone in a moving crowd.

Vehicles, Parking, Curfews, Permits

  • Parking - Illegal parking can tow you out of the day. Use marked lots and obey temporary restrictions.
  • Do Not Block Roads Unless Lawfully Permitted - Unpermitted street takeovers can be treated as obstruction.
  • Curfews - Emergency curfews and dispersal orders are local and temporary. Leaving when ordered is usually the safer path.
  • Permits - Large marches, stages, and amplified sound often need permits. Organizers should check city or park rules in advance.

Live-Streaming and Digital Safety

Live video can protect people - and also expose home addresses, faces of bystanders, or private plate details. Do not dox. The Vault warning “not for doxing” applies in spirit here too: do not use this product or any upload path to harass or publish private home data. SoftCache prefs (theme, focus, swipe) are not a safety plan and never hold your login session.

  • Location Sharing - Turn off precise live maps for strangers; share meetup spots with your buddy only.
  • Blur When Needed - Faces of minors and private addresses deserve care before a public post.
  • Consent Indoors - Private venues and homes are not sidewalk recording norms.
  • Evidence And Wall - Use Evidence or Wall only where the product already allows verified Merit-gated uploads. This guide does not invent new upload rights.

Medical, Heat, Water, Accessibility

Body Care

Water, shade, sunscreen, snacks, and any regular medication. Heat and dehydration end more days than slogans. Know where medics or first-aid tents are.

Access

Plan wheelchair routes, rest spots, and quieter exit paths. Loudspeakers and sudden crowd surges are hard on sensory needs - bring ear protection if useful.

If Detained Or Cited

  1. Get The Paper - Keep the citation. Note court date and charge code.
  2. Badge Number - Ask calmly for name and badge when safe.
  3. Searches - Do not consent to searches beyond what the law requires in that stop. Saying “I do not consent” is not the same as physically resisting.
  4. Silence And Counsel - You may ask for a lawyer. Do not invent facts to fill silence. This is still not legal advice - contact counsel licensed locally.
  5. Tell Your Buddy - One safe call or message to your meetup person matters more than posting online mid-arrest.

What If… Edge Cases

A dispersal order is announced?
Leave by the nearest clear route. Do not linger to argue. Document from outside the closed zone when safe.
Someone offers you a weapon or “gear”?
Decline. Walk away. Peaceful neighbors do not accept unknown packages.
You see someone hurt?
Call emergency services. Make space for medics. Do not move an injured person unless you know how and it is necessary.
An officer orders phones down?
If the order is about interference (blocking, touching), comply with the interference stop while keeping distance. Pure recording-in-public disputes are often fought later with counsel - not by escalating on the curb.
You are on a campus or workplace?
Institutional codes may add rules beyond sidewalk norms. Check the host’s posted policy.
Drones or elevated filming?
Aviation and privacy rules vary. Do not fly over crowds or restricted airspace without checking local and federal limits.
Someone asks for your home address on camera?
Decline. Direct people to public event pages, not private residences.

After the Rally

Hydrate. Check on your buddy. Write notes while memory is fresh.

Reminder: laws vary by state and city. Verify locally. This page is civic education for peaceful neighbors - not a lawyer on call.
